TOM MITFORD: A FEARFUL OLD TWISTER
A BOOK BY WILLIAM CROSS, FSA SCOT

NASH RAMBLER OF THE ESOTERIC CURIOSA WRITES:

From A Shelf Nearby ~ “’Tomfoolery’ ~ Tom In The Spotlight!”
I’ve no doubt that all those Esoteric who read these words will agree with me when I state that “books are the staff of life!”

In the reading, we find that the art of storytelling, with its aeonian cycles of creation and perpetuation, continues to fascinate and inspire wonder in all of us! A vital component in this fascinating ritual is the role of the storyteller; the conduit from which all freely flows.

Although storytellers range across the board; there have been countless standouts throughout the millennia. Focusing closer on our own era, we’re lucky to have in our midst; an historical research author who’s known for his talent of penning tomes thoroughly researched; showcasing quite rare and often long lost subjects. He’s been known to rescue those who often languish in the footnotes; and breathe life into their stories and bring them into the light.

William Cross, FSA Scot, is just such a storyteller and an old friend of the Esoteric Curiosa. From all things pertaining to Carnarvon, Tutankhamun, Tredegar and everything in-between, Cross has been there; nib at the ready, to share his knowledge of the subject; often with newly found, or unpublished sources.

In this vein, we now have his newest work to devour; TOM MITFORD: A FEARFUL OLD TWISTER – Only Brother Of The Outrageous Mitford Sisters. In this first stand-alone biography, Cross sets the record straight on the young man who has essentially been lost and overshadowed by the larger than life personalities of his sisters.

The Hon. Thomas David Freeman-Mitford, only son and heir of the second Baron Redesdale; considered by his contemporaries as a clever, gifted man, with brilliant musical talents, albeit harboring a darker, brooding side and personality flaws; fully comes to life under the deft handling of Cross’s pen. In the reading; we find a man who dared to fill his thirty-six years of life with adventure and learning; fully embracing his beliefs, often in the glare of societal disapproval. Told chronologically; Cross explores the truths and the myths of this rarely touched subject. Published on March 30th, 2025, the eightieth anniversary of his death, Tom deserves your attention and a place on your shelf!

Quantities are limited on this boutique printing, don’t miss out!

“. . . his loss was something from which I never recovered for the rest of my life.” Diana, Lady Mosley.
